Author Interview - Andrea Hall
How did you become a writer?
I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember. I think I’ve always been a writer. I loved writing stories in school, and I participated in writing contests too. But it took time to find my voice as a writer and figure out which stories I wanted, and needed, to tell.
What inspires you to write?
Books have been a big part of my life since childhood. I love losing myself in stories, going on adventures, and learning something new. I hope to provide that for other readers.
Could you share some of your challenges as a writer?
One of my biggest challenges is getting the entire first draft written before I start revising! I love revision, so I want to start revising as I’m getting my first draft down. I’ve started keeping a separate log of revision notes to myself so that I maintain momentum in finishing the first draft. I also tend to be a concise writer, which is great for some projects but not all. In revision I layer in more detail to the story.
Do you have a routine you follow when writing?
I tend to write best in the morning, with coffee in hand! To be honest, I’m working to get into a better routine.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Publishing is subjective, and rejection is part of this business. Keep learning, growing, and pushing yourself. Don’t be afraid to try something new!
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Read widely! Experiment with your writing and try different approaches. Every project is a learning process. Find other writers who will support you and help you grow in your craft.
